Devonport City Council is calling for public input into naming the new $17 million waterfront park, through its community survey this month.
The community can vote online, via phone or call into Council's Customer Service to vote for the shortlisted names or can make their own suggestion.
Council's City Growth Executive Manager Matthew Skirving said the shortlist of potential park names includes:
- Lyons Plaza
- Waterfront Park
- paranaple park
- Mersey River Park
- or make your own park name suggestion.
"The Waterfront Precinct has undergone a major transformation these past few years and we want our community to be part of creating history in naming the public open space in front of the new Novotel Hotel," Mr Skirving said.
"This is a really exciting time for our community as the waterfront precinct reaches some major milestones this weekend with the opening the hotel.
"Council is keen to hear what our community prefers for the new waterfront park name, and we look forward to any new suggestions we receive through this consultation process.
"This is a great opportunity for the community to be part of the decision-making process in naming the new waterfront park."
Mr Skirving said the top final names will be discussed with the new Council in November before a final selection is made and referred to Placenames Tasmania to be officially registered.
He said with some sections of the park already open to the public, Council is looking forward to completion and handover of further sections in the coming weeks, with these areas to be opened for public use as soon as possible.
"This will include the Rotunda parkland forming part of Roundhouse Park, and additional areas adjacent to Rooke Street," Mr Skirving said.
"As soon as we are able to provide access to the foreshore areas adjacent to the Mersey River, the elevated walkway can also be opened to the general public."
