Cricket Victoria is proud to recognise Mooroolbark Cricket Club Co-Presidents Shane Osborn and Briony Polkinghorne as the July Kookaburra Volunteers of the Month, celebrating their outstanding leadership and contribution to community cricket.
Shane and Briony have been instrumental in transforming Mooroolbark Cricket Club into a thriving and inclusive community sporting club, creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in cricket. Having served together as Co-Presidents for the past two years, their shared vision, strong leadership and commitment to the club's values have helped drive significant progress both on and off the field.
Under their leadership, Mooroolbark has developed a genuine pathway for the entire community, encompassing senior men's and women's cricket, junior boys' and girls' teams, All Abilities cricket, Woolworths Cricket Blast and other introductory participation programs.
A key focus for Shane and Briony has been growing the game through strong connections with local schools and the wider community. Mooroolbark regularly delivers school cricket clinics and hosts School Cup and Smash Cricket days, giving local students the opportunity to experience cricket in a fun and welcoming environment while providing a natural pathway into the club's junior programs.
Their contribution has also been defined by a willingness to embrace change and make decisions with the long-term future of the club in mind. Leading change within a community sporting environment is not always easy, but Shane and Briony have remained focused on the club's values, sustainability and creating the best possible experience for current and future members.
Central to their success has been their partnership as Co-Presidents. By sharing responsibilities, supporting each other through challenges and bringing together their individual strengths, Shane and Briony have created a united leadership team that continues to deliver positive outcomes for Mooroolbark Cricket Club and its broader community.
Together, Shane and Briony have helped create more than a successful cricket club - they have fostered a welcoming community where people can belong, develop and enjoy the game of cricket.
As the July Kookaburra Volunteers of the Month, Shane and Briony will also receive a $200 Kookaburra voucher in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the game.
