This school holidays, cyclists doing the right thing on Rottnest Island will be in the running to win free ferry tickets and free bicycle and snorkel hire from Pedal and Flipper.
Constable Care is visiting Rottnest Island today to spread the safety message 'before riding your bike, make sure your helmet's on right' to the island's residents and visitors.
Rottnest Island police will be issuing 'infringements' - which will double as a competition entry form - to those securely wearing their helmets and riding safely.
Each Friday, for six weeks, a winner will be drawn and will win ferry return tickets, free snorkel and bike hire for two adults and two children. The winners will be announced on http://www.rottnestisland.com and Rottnest Island's social media accounts.
As noted by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:
"Last summer school holidays saw a record number of people visit Rottnest and we want to make sure people have a safe and enjoyable trip.
"Cycling is always a popular pastime on Rottnest and the best way to ensure safety while riding is having a helmet securely fastened."
As noted by Police Minister Michelle Roberts:
"Whether you're on holiday or not, wearing a helmet while cycling is compulsory in WA.
"Holidays are meant to be fun, not spent waiting around hospital emergency departments, so please do the right thing and wear a helmet.
"It could save your life or protect you from a serious brain injury which could have lifelong consequences."
