The Hunter is set for a major boost to frontline emergency care, with construction now underway on the new Gateshead Ambulance Station.
Member for Charlestown Jodie Harrison will today join local paramedics to turn the first sod on the new station on Oakdale Road, marking a major milestone for the community.
The new ambulance station will include:
- 14 ambulance vehicle parking bays, including a dedicated wash bay
- administration and office areas
- staff amenities, including a gym
- on-site parking
- logistics and storage facilities.
Lipman has been appointed as the building contractor following a competitive tender process and planning approval.
Site establishment works are underway, with construction activity to increase in the coming months.
Construction of the new station is expected to be completed in late 2027.
NSW Ambulance identified the Gateshead station's location through a comprehensive service planning process that analysed demand and ambulance response requirements across the region.
The new purpose-built Gateshead Ambulance Station is being delivered as part of the NSW Government's $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program.
The new station at Gateshead will complement other ambulance infrastructure across the Hunter region including Caves Beach, North Rothbury, East Maitland and Edgeworth ambulance stations.
This is all part of the Minns Labor Government's plan to rebuild our frontline workforce including by delivering a historic pay increase for our paramedics and recruiting an additional 500 paramedics in rural and regional areas.
