A nationwide Consumer Confidence Survey was commissioned by the FMA in 2024, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of New Zealanders' experiences with financial markets including investments, insurance, KiwiSaver, and financial markets regulation.
It found that Māori and women were less likely to feel confident in our financial markets, and were also less likely to feel confident our financial markets were effectively regulated.
This research also picked up differences in the likelihood of different groups using Buy Now/Pay Later products, credit cards, and the popularity of various investment products and insurance.
