At the April 2025 meeting, Council awarded the wetlands construction partner contract to Entracon Civil Pty Ltd.
As we move into the next phase of realising the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve's masterplan vision, we're transforming 40% of the reserve into a tranquil and stunning urban wetland. Located at the reserve's southern end, the wetlands will provide critical habitat for wildlife and new vegetation habitat zones.
The wetlands will naturally filter pollutants and sediments from stormwater through integrated sustainable water management practices, improving water quality before its reuse within the reserve, for irrigation at adjacent sports fields, and release into Port Phillip Bay. The increased stormwater storage capacity will also slow the release of excess water and help to reduce flood risk.
Entracon's submission was evaluated as the most suitable construction partner due to their extensive experience in building complex wetlands, demonstrated ability to work in an active flood retarding basin environment, their skill in habitat creation and competitive price.
Entracon's previous projects include Knox City Council's 2.5 million Gilbert Park and Egan Lee Reserve wetlands, and the $8 million Kalkallo Waterway and Wetland for Stockland developers.
Construction on the wetlands is anticipated to commence in July 2025, with early works from June. For more project information and to subscribe for project updates, visit the project page.
