Cool Mornings, Sunny Skies Expected This Weekend

BOM
Hello, this is Angus here at the Bureau of Meteorology. This is the National Weather Forecast. We're going to take a look at the weather for the weekend, the 18th and 19th of April.

And for some, it will be the first real cold mornings of the year, as we head through autumn. The combination of high pressure across the south and the south-east,

as well as clear skies and not much wind, is going to lead to some very chilly temperatures through the next couple of mornings.

Not a lot of rainfall around the country, although we will continue to see some wet weather across the tropical north and through parts of inland Queensland,

potentially out towards the coast in one or two areas. And we will start in Queensland for our state-by-state fly over.

It's a bright, sunny, relatively warm day for Brisbane and the south-east, although expect the wind to change in the afternoon. The temperature might drop a couple of degrees.

Bright, sunny and warm through the southern inland and the south-west, and in fact, most of the east coast seeing some clear conditions. There will be a few showers around parts of the Capricornia,

up to the Central Highlands, the Central West and way out towards the north-west for Mount Isa and the Gulf Country, possibly a storm up in the north-west as well.

The cold change, which is moving through on Friday, will have completely pushed through by Saturday morning.

So a bright, sunny day, but those temperatures are quite a lot lower than where they have been sitting through most of the week.

And in fact, some spots down through the southern ranges, including around Canberra, could be seeing their first sub-zero degree temperatures of the year.

The forecast here in Canberra at 0 °C, but it may slip slightly below that.

After that single-digit start, it will be a bright, sunny day through all of these areas and really nice along the east coast as well.

Even though those maximum temperatures are in the low 20s, it will be bright and sunny.

If you are heading to the beach on this nice sunny weekend day, just be aware there are some powerful swells and hazardous surf up this east coast.

A cool morning right across Victoria, likely to see some frosty conditions at elevation.

So through most of the ranges and mountainous areas we will see temperatures approaching that 0 °C mark in the morning.

We see on our towns and cities here lots of 2 °C and 3 °C forecast temperatures to kick off the day. After that very cold start, it will be a pleasant day.

Temperatures are going to be fairly mild, about 15 °C to 20 °C across the state with a little bit of cloud, but not much wind and no rainfall.

A cool morning in Tasmania, possible early shower for some southern-facing areas, but that will dry up pretty quickly.

Low single-digit temperatures through all towns and cities here at first, and the daily highs are between 14 °C and 17 °C.

So fairly cool but the wind dies out and it will be a bright afternoon.

We've got fairly pleasant weather across South Australia on Saturday.

Again, some pretty cold morning temperatures, particularly down here in the south-east for Mount Gambier. Adelaide seeing a start of 11 °C.

Throughout the course of Saturday, the wind will shift and start to come in from the north, pulling some of that desert air across the state.

And those temperatures will climb in many areas, at least to the mid 20s around the Adelaide region, upper 20s and low 30s for areas further north.

Now there will be some rain overnight tonight through Perth, so if you're an early riser on Saturday you could start off with a bit of rainfall. But if you're sleeping in on your Saturday morning,

it should all have cleared by the time you get out of bed. The little band of rain will push up towards Geraldton in the afternoon,

but through the majority of the day it will be completely dry everywhere else, including down around the Perth area after those very early showers clear up.

Temperatures for the southern half of the state fairly cool in the low 20s or high teens, but we're looking at seasonal temperatures across the north-west.

And for the north of the country, a few showers and storms, or at least a chance of a shower or thunderstorm right across the Top End,

so Darwin, right through to the east coast and down to about Tennant Creek here.

So we are still in the midst of those wet season conditions which have been coming and going this week. South of Tennant Creek, it is a bright day with temperatures in the low 30s,

and for WA we might see a little bit of rainfall across the northern parts of the Kimberley, but it should be dry elsewhere.

And a quick look at Sunday's temperatures and forecast now. Likely to be some sub-zero temperatures across the south-east.

Some very chilly beginnings, but a nice, pleasant sunny day, warming up to about 20°C across much of New South Wales, Victoria, not quite that warm in Tasmania.

A bright one for Brisbane, a couple of degrees cooler than Saturday.

Possible early shower in Adelaide, but wouldn't think too much about that, maybe less than 1 mm, and then fine after that and looking pretty good everywhere else.

See how next week's forecast is shaping up at the Bureau's website or app. That's it for me for this week though. Thanks very much for watching.
