Costa's coming to Cairns Ecofiesta

Garden guru Costa Georgiadis, host of ABC's Gardening Australia, is returning to Far North Queensland this weekend for Cairns Ecofiesta, spreading some sustainability sunshine at Munro Martin Parklands this Sunday (May 29).

Cairns Ecofiesta kicks off at 10am with a jam-packed solar-charged, waste-free program of free entertainment, education, inspiration, giveaways, competitions and eco-activities, including 20 bands and performers, more than 100 sustainable market stalls and community groups.

Delivered by Cairns Regional Council on the doorstep of two World Heritage areas, Queensland's premier sustainability festival has expanded its geographical footprint into Florence St this year for sustainability markets, between Sheridan and Grafton streets, from 10am to 4pm.

(Florence St, between Sheridan and Grafton streets will be closed from 5am to 10pm.)

The event has also reduced its ecological footprint.

Bands will perform on a zero-emissions solar-powered 'Sun stage' and the 'wash against waste' commercial dishwashing system will return to Ecofiesta to eliminate all single-use cutlery and plates from the event.

Local businesses taking part in Ecofiesta will also be running competitions and giveaways on the day to help Cairns people grow their gardens and reduce their ecological footprint.

Cairns Ecofiesta is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It's Live! in Queensland events calendar.

The event is hosted by Cairns Regional Council, sponsored by CleanCo and Linked, with support from Wet Tropics Management Authority, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and CAFNEC.
