Council Advances Chinese Cultural Centre Plans

At its meeting on Monday 24 November 2025, Council formally resolved to progress planning for a Chinese Community and Cultural Centre in the Box Hill precinct, marking an important step in celebrating the area's vibrant community.

To support future decision-making, Council has requested a detailed report from Council officers that will:

  • Identify potential funding opportunities, including Council, State and Federal Government sources, as well as other funding avenues.
  • Explore suitable locations within Box Hill and consider appropriate governance and management models, developed in close partnership with the community.
  • Outline meaningful and inclusive consultation approaches to engage local Chinese community members and organisations in shaping the Centre.
  • Incorporate community submissions received by Council that have called for the establishment of a Chinese Community and Cultural Centre.
  • Consider the inclusion of the Centre in Council's advocacy program, supporting broader funding and partnership opportunities.

Council is committed to working collaboratively with all members of our community to ensure the Centre reflects community aspirations and becomes a welcoming, inclusive space for cultural connection.
