A new 'Careers at Council' video produced by students at Jindabyne Central School (JCS) has been launched to promote Snowy Monaro Regional Council as an employer of choice for traineeships and apprenticeships.
This project was possible thanks to the NSW Department of Education's Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) program.
Council was contacted by RIEP back in September 2020 and connected with Rayna Green, the Careers Advisor at JCS to begin exploring how we could work together. It was decided that a group of JCS' budding creatives would work on putting together a video promoting Council's traineeships and apprenticeships - targeting promising young people like them.
The students got to work over the course of November 2020, conducting interviews with Council staff and filming right across the region. Students Angus Ballinger, Zane Gourlay and Jake Barnes captured the unique beauty of our part of the world, and were successful in showing that working for Council isn't just a job - it can be more than a career, it can be a lifestyle too here in the Snowy Monaro.
After the completion of filming, students and staff worked closely to review and refine the draft edits of the project. Despite delays and setbacks due to COVID-19, the project was signed off in August 2021.
This project saw the students gain invaluable real-world skills and experience in videography, interviewing, editing with industry-standard software, and navigating the often-painstaking debate and deliberation that goes along with any creative project. They also met with Council's communications and workforce teams to get feedback throughout the project.
Thanks to their efforts, Council now has a recruitment video for its traineeships and apprenticeships program - made by young people, for young people - that will be a valued asset for years to come.
