Nillumbik Shire Council has endorsed the concept plan for the proposed BMX Jumps and Recreation Park at Challenger Street Reserve, Diamond Creek, marking an important milestone for the long-awaited community project.
The concept plan has been informed by years of planning, technical advice, and community feedback, and will provide a destination for riders, families and recreation enthusiasts.
The proposed design includes BMX jumps, a learn-to-ride pump track for younger or beginner riders, toilet facilities, shelters, BBQs, seating and bike racks, safety lighting, water stations and landscaping, creating an accessible and welcoming community space.
Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner said the endorsed concept was an important step forward for a project that has generated strong interest from the community.
"The concept plan reflects extensive community feedback and outlines a facility that will support active recreation while creating a welcoming space for people to come together and enjoy."
Mayor Cr Joiner said there were still a number of important steps to complete before construction could begin.
"The adopted concept plan is an important step, but there is still work to do before the project can proceed," she said.
"The project must complete a Cultural Heritage Management Plan, and other required assessments which will form part of the planning permit application. As part of the planning process, the proposal will be publicly advertised, giving the community an opportunity to review the plans and lodge an objection or submission of support during the public notification period."

The project is jointly funded through the Victorian State Governments Growing Suburbs Fund contributing more than $2.16m for this project along with $650,000 from Nillumbik Shire Council.
