Council Backs Griffith Section 7.12 Plan

A little-known plan that plays a big role in shaping how Griffith grows has been given the go-ahead by Griffith City Council.

At its meeting on 14 April 2026, Council endorsed the Griffith Section 7.12 Contributions Plan, a framework that helps ensure new development contributes to the infrastructure needed to support a growing community.

The plan applies across the Griffith Local Government Area and allows Council to collect modest contributions from new development. These funds are used to help deliver everyday infrastructure residents rely on, including roads, footpaths, parks, drainage, community facilities and public spaces across Griffith and surrounding villages.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the plan ensures growth is supported fairly and transparently.

"As Griffith continues to grow, it is important that new development contributes fairly to the infrastructure our community relies on," Mayor Curran said.

"This plan keeps contributions transparent, consistent and reasonable while ensuring growth pays its way."

The plan also includes exemptions for smaller developments and specific uses such as secondary dwellings, affordable housing and sustainability upgrades.

In practical terms, it means that as new homes, businesses and developments are built, they also help fund the local roads, parks and services that make Griffith a great place to live.
