Corangamite Shire Council is looking for two community members to join its Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC).
The committee will be responsible for preparing Corangamite Shire's 'Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP) 2022-2024' which will identify and assesses emergency risks and measures to reduce and manage them.
Manager Environment and Emergency Lyall Bond said Council was looking for candidates from across the Shire with expertise or interest in areas such as farming, land management, conservation, indigenous, tourism and business, aged and disability, youth, arts and culture, or sport.
"We are looking for people with a range of perspectives," Mr Bond said.
"Having faced floods, fires and now a pandemic in the past decade, there is such a wealth of knowledge across the shire."
"It is a valuable role and an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas that will ultimately help protect our communities.
"I encourage anyone with experience or a keen interest to put their hand up and work with us and other agencies to better plan and prepare for our next emergency," he said.
"The MEMP committee meets a minimum of three times a year with additional meetings as required," Mr Bond said. "The meetings are generally in Camperdown or online during business hours. It's a voluntary role but members will be reimbursed for travel to and from meetings in Camperdown."
Interested residents are encouraged to view the current Municipal Emergency Management Plan and complete an online Expression of Interest at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/MEMPC before noon on Friday 5 August.
