Council crews to begin mosquito treatments following king tides

Townsville City Council crews will begin treatments in mosquito-prone areas of the city following the king tides during the week.

Ground treatments will start this afternoon after the king tide recedes and will continue throughout the rest of the week.

Aerial treatments will start later in the week and target areas such as Toolakea, Saunders Beach, Bluewater, Town Common, Rowes Bay and Cungulla.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney urged residents to take precautions to protect themselves against mosquitoes.

"We really encourage residents to cover up when outside and use repellent while there is increased mosquito activity," Cr Greaney said.

"We are expecting showers throughout the week, so I urge residents to check their yards for items that hold water and empty them to help prevent the spread of mosquitos.

"Council is conducting ground treatment to prevent the mosquitos breeding and will begin aerial treatments later in the week – weather permitting."
