Council Laboratory Tallies Nearly 300,000 Tests In 2025

Townsville Laboratory Services is starting off the year on a high note after completing almost 300,000 complex analytical tests for 135 major clients in 2025.

The Council-run service is a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory which offers soil and water testing services, and has been back in action since Friday January 2. Townsville Laboratory Services is one of the country's leading laboratories and services Council as well as other government areas and private clients.

The National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) completed a full reassessment audit of Townsville Laboratory Services for chemical and biological accreditation in early 2025, giving commendations to laboratory staff for their professionalism and technical competency.

NATA accreditation means that Townsville Laboratory Services follows a very strict and regulated quality and documentation system, ensuring accurate and reliable analysis with global acceptance.

Mayor Nick Dametto said the results reflected the laboratory team's outstanding work ethic.

"Townsville Laboratory Services is the gold standard for soil and water testing and is one of about 20 labs across the country that is accredited to test for emerging contaminants like PFAS, endotoxin levels and to offer testing to the community," Cr Dametto said.

"The lab completed 298,040 analytical tests in 2025, along with 6717 tests for blue green algae. This lab and the scientists who work there are well respected and trusted, with 135 major clients and even more walk-in clients relying on the lab's analytical testing in 2025.

"The lab's scientists are also participating in several research partnerships with universities in areas of PFAS, biosolids and blue green algae, providing important insights to these areas.

"This has been a huge year for the team at Townsville Laboratory Services, so I'd like to offer them a huge congratulations on behalf of myself and the communities they serve. Well done."
