Townsville CityLibraries has received great feedback on its first ever online Storytime, with plans underway to move more family favourite activities onto the internet.
The decision to hold Storytime online comes as Townsville City Council works to continue community programs following the Federal Government's decision to close all libraries to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The first iteration of the online program has been met with enthusiasm from locals who tuned in with their little ones to enjoy Storytime from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Mayor Jenny Hill said it was heartening to have such a positive response.
"We're working hard at Council to deliver our community programs as best we can under the current social distancing restrictions," Cr Hill said.
"Our CityLibraries staff members have been hard at work to produce Storytime for an online format, and having so many people log on and enjoy Storytime with us."
Cr Hill said having Storytime online also brought a new audience to the event.
"We hosted Storytime on Facebook, and while most of our viewers were from Queensland, we also had friends from Victoria, NSW, Western Australia, Peru, Canada and Thailand tune in," she said.
"This is great, and we hope we have more friends join us for Storytime as we continue to deliver it on Facebook.
