Kiama Council has unanimously supported providing a submission to Transport for NSW on the Draft Kiama Harbour Revitalisation Strategic Framework.

The submission supports a balance of commercial, recreational and tourism industries and uses around the harbour.

It also supports improvements to safety, public amenity and accessibility of the harbour, as well as the aesthetic and beauty of the public spaces.

However, it lists a number of specific concerns, such as:

  • Complex and conflicting land management arrangements
  • Access to the waterfront, in particular the Blowhole Rock Pool
  • Relocating the boat ramp
  • Reviewing, repairing and embellishing the full harbour seawall
  • A new break-wall, moorings and additional harbour area

Council's submission also asks for more detail on several aspects of the Framework:

  • the proposed governance model to progress the plan
  • the role and responsibility of Kiama Council
  • timeframes and funding sources for all works
  • legislation and planning controls required
