Council has provided a submission on the Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) for the next stage of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades, as part of the North East Link Project (NELP).
NELP recently exhibited the latest UDLP for the Eastern Freeway upgrade from Burke Road to Hoddle Street for community review and feedback.
While this section of the Eastern Freeway does not cover land within or adjacent to Manningham's boundaries, we have still taken the opportunity to comment on key matters of relevance to Manningham.
Our submission for the Burke Road to Hoddle Street UDLP continues our ongoing advocacy for improvements and additional benefits for the community, sensitivity to environmental changes and no net loss of open space as a result of the project.
Key points in the submission include:
- Ensuring the final outcome of the project achieves benefits above and beyond the standard outcome for a road infrastructure project.
- Ensuring no net loss of open space as a result of the project.
- Maximising feelings of safety and comfort, particularly at underpass locations.
- Identifying opportunities to prioritise active transport connectivity and safety.
- Advocating for the continuation of the express busway, which connects to Doncaster Park and Ride in Manningham.
- Transparency and accountability on all environmental processes and management.
- Maximising tree retention and seeking full transparency and accountability from NELP and its contractors on an agreed, documented and effective tree removal process.
We lodged our submission in November 2025.
