Moira Shire Council's response to the Yarroweyah/Muckatah fire continues, with Council endorsing its Post Event Recovery Action Plan.
This plan outlines a coordinated approach to recovery following the 9 January 2026 fire, which burned approximately 1,530 hectares and destroyed 25 structures including 13 homes, damaged power infrastructure, roads and fencing, and caused widespread agricultural losses across orchards and fodder crops.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said since the fire, Council has actively led recovery efforts.
"We are supporting affected residents through case management, advocating for primary producers and impacted landholders, coordinating fencing restoration, building collective advocacy with neighbouring councils and regional partners, and coordinating social connection events and resilience activities," Dr Emonson said.
"With the immediate phase of recovery now well established, Council is formalising this Action Plan to provide the structured, longer-term framework needed to guide recovery activity through to full community and economic restoration."
The Post Event Recovery Action Plan has been developed in collaboration with impacted community members, the Local Recovery Coordination Committee, state agencies and emergency services.
It identifies six key priorities, reflecting both the immediate needs of those affected and the longer-term goal of building a more resilient Moira community.
Recovery activities, priorities and delivery may be adjusted throughout the life of the plan to reflect changing recovery needs, funding opportunities and community feedback.
The program will be funded by Victorian and Commonwealth government agencies, and includes dedicated recovery staffing and hub operations to ensure impacted residents can access coordinated, locally led support throughout the recovery period.
