Kiama Council CEO Jane Stroud has thanked AVCON, a local waste remediation company, for their assistance in removing two cow carcasses from the Minnamurra River this week.

The dead cows were found in the Minnamurra River after the recent heavy rain and flooding events.

The cows' ID tags were missing, so Council was unable to contact the owners of the livestock, who would normally be responsible for their removal.

AVCON, based in Port Kembla are experts in emergency management, waste remediation water rescue and industrial services.

Council also thanked NSW Fire & Rescue for the use of their drone, Kiama Support Operations IRB in assisting Council to locate the carcasses and Marine Rescue for their advice.

"We thank AVCON for their assistance in this matter – removing the debris from the river prior to the Council-sponsored Kiama Triathlon event on the weekend," said Ms Stroud. "We also extend our appreciation to the NSW Fire and Rescue Service, Kiama Support Operations and Marine Rescue."
