Federation Council extends its sincere thanks to all Howlong residents who attended the successful Water Improvement Project Information Session held last week, Tuesday, July 22, at the Howlong Golf Resort. The well-attended meeting provided a valuable opportunity for the community to receive comprehensive updates on the significant progress and future plans for Howlong's vital water infrastructure.
The session covered key advancements already made, including the new 375mm trunk main along Townsend Street and the new rising main from the treatment plant to the Read Street Water Tower, which are now operational.
Future strategic plans, such as the detailed hydraulic modelling being undertaken by NSW Public Works to identify specific areas for improvement, were also discussed. Potential major upgrades, including upsizing the town's central ring main and constructing a new, larger water storage tank, were outlined, along with estimated costs and timelines.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, expressed her appreciation for the community's strong engagement.
"It was fantastic to see so many Howlong residents attend last night's information session," Mayor Cook said.
"Your active participation demonstrates how deeply our community cares about reliable water services, and your feedback is incredibly valuable as we continue to roll out this crucial project. We are committed to transparency and ensuring residents are informed every step of the way as we work towards an enhanced water supply."
General Manager Adrian Butler acknowledged the complexities but reaffirmed Council's commitment.
"Council is aware there are long-standing challenges with water pressure and flow in Howlong, and our utilities team is diligently working through the strategic planning and implementation phases," he said.
"We are confident these works will deliver tangible improvements for current residents and support the town's future growth."
Help Council Help You: Participate in the Howlong Bucket Test
To further assist Council in gathering data for the hydraulic modelling and understanding specific pressure issues across Howlong, residents are invited to conduct a simple "Bucket Test" at their homes.
How to do the Bucket Test:
- Find a standard 10-litre bucket.
- Open your garden tap (or other outdoor tap) closest to your water meter fully.
- Time how long it takes to fill the 10-litre bucket.
- Note down the time in seconds. Also note the time and day you recorded this information.
- Complete the online form and send your test results to Council.
