Council thanks Warren Tegg for his service to Georges River community

Georges River Council

First elected to Georges River Council in September 2017 Warren Tegg, a lifelong resident of Penshurst and proud community representative, will be remembered for standing up for integrity on Council.

On reflecting on the career of Warren Tegg, Georges River Council Mayor, Nick Katris said, "Warren Tegg has been a valuable member of our Council. He has been responsible for very innovative Notices of Motions which have, on many occasions, been transformed into important Council policy.

"His stand on issues related to climate change and sustainable Council practices have been consistent and unfailing which have led to realistic but challenging targets for Council to meet.

"His professionalism during his council tenure has been outstanding and his intellectual ability has led to positive outcomes for the community that he has consistently represented.

"We wish him well for his future endeavours and family commitments. He will be a significant loss to Council."

Warren Tegg will be remembered for supporting diversity in our area, with projects like the rainbow crossing on Forest Road Hurstville.

He was behind the move to install Share the Dignity vending machines in our major libraries and was committed to looking after our natural environment by serving as the representative to the Georges Riverkeeper and setting up a significant tree register for Georges River.

The now vacant seat on Council will be filled with a countback election. A countback election is used to elect a councillor to fill a single vacancy, where the vacating councillor was elected at a local government ordinary election.

The Electoral Commissioner was notified of the casual vacancy on Tuesday 23 August. A Returning Officer has been appointed by the Electoral Commission, and they will issue the casual vacancy notices to eligible candidates.

Where a candidate is interested, they must submit a formal application to the returning officer.

If there are no eligible candidates, an attendance by-election must be held. If there is only one eligible candidate, that candidate is elected. If there are multiple eligible candidates, a countback election is conducted.

Georges River Council will announce the outcome of the countback election once they are notified by the Electoral Commission.
