Bayside City Council will consider two Notices of Motion relating to Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve at its Council Meeting on Tuesday 21 July 2026.
The first Notice of Motion proposes that Council consider a range of governance, environmental, safety and operational requirements relating to the Yalukit Willam Nature Association (YWNA) and its activities within the reserve.
The second Notice of Motion proposes that Council consider offering a reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the suspected illegal relocation of Growling Grass Frogs into the reserve.
The Notices of Motion have been submitted by an individual Councillor and will be considered by Council through its formal decision-making process. They have not been debated by Council and do not represent a decision or position of Council.
Mayor Cr Debbie Taylor-Haynes said it was important the community understood the role of the Council meeting in considering matters of significant public interest.
"Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve is one of Bayside's most important environmental assets, and Council is committed to its long-term protection and stewardship," Cr Taylor-Haynes said.
"The reserve has also benefited from the commitment of many community volunteers over many years, and Council acknowledges that valuable contribution."
"The matters before Council will now be considered through our formal democratic process."
"Council meetings are where important public decisions are made. It is vital that Councillors have the opportunity to consider these Notices of Motion through the formal decision-making process before any conclusions are drawn."
Council will not comment on the merits of the Notices of Motion before they have been considered by Councillors.
Following the Council meeting, Council will communicate the decisions made and any resulting actions.
The Council Meeting Agenda, including the full text of both Notices of Motion, is available on Council's website.
