Council treating mosquito breeding areas after rainfall

Townsville City Council crews are buzzing around the city to treat mosquito-prone areas after the recent rainfall.

Aerial and ground treatments are being conducted with Council crews working until Christmas to stop the spread of mosquitos.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said it is important to begin treatment quickly after rain events.

"It is great that Owen brought some much-needed rainfall to Townsville, but this does mean that we are likely to see an increase in mosquitos," Cr Greaney said.

"Council crews are working to treat any problem areas and treatment will continue until Christmas.

"I encourage locals to use insect repellent and empty any pooled water in containers around their backyard to reduce the risk of being bitten."
