Swan Hill Rural City Council has welcomed Victorian Labor's election commitment to reinvest 100 per cent of mineral resource royalties into regional Victoria, reflecting Council's ongoing advocacy to ensure regional communities receive a fair share of the wealth generated by resource development.

Mayor Cr Stuart King said the announcement was a positive step towards recognising the significant contribution regional Victoria makes to the state's economy and the importance of reinvesting that wealth back into the regions.

"Regional Victoria plays a vital role in generating the state's mineral wealth, and it is only fair that the communities supporting this industry share in the economic benefits," Cr King said.

"Council has consistently advocated for greater investment in regional infrastructure, services and housing, particularly as emerging industries place increasing demands on our communities.

"We welcome Labor's commitment and now call on all political parties to make the same pledge, ensuring regional communities benefit from the resources extracted in their own backyard.

"For communities like ours, this funding has the potential to deliver real and lasting benefits, from better roads and housing to essential infrastructure and services that support economic growth.

"Our message is simple - when regional Victoria generates the wealth, regional Victoria deserves a fair share of the return," Cr King said.
