Council Youth team serves up free food handling course

Twelve young residents can get a free qualifications at Corangamite Shire's Safe Food Handling course.

Council's Youth Services is providing fully subsidised training opportunities as part of its Sync-up career upskilling program.

Youth Services Coordinator Taylor Bonin invited residents aged 14-25 years to register for the free training.

"This course will open up work opportunities work and is also a requirement for various community activities like the canteen at your sporting club or a fundraising cake stall or sausage sizzle.

"All the essentials of food safety are covered in this one course," Taylor said.

"The nationally accredited unit provides the skills and knowledge required to comply with personal hygiene, maintain food safety, contribute to cleanliness of food handling areas and dispose of food.

"Participants who successfully complete the assessments during the course will receive in a statement of attainment for the accredited unit 'HLTFSE001 Follow Basic Food Safety Practices'."

The course covers:

  • personal hygiene and cleaning practices to prevent contamination of food
  • identifying and controlling food hazards
  • food safety laws, standards and codes
  • hands-on food preparation techniques

It will be held in the Theatre Royal kitchen in Camperdown on Saturday 19 November, from 11 am - 3 pm.
