Council's first electric car takes to road: Bayside

Bayside Council has taken delivery of its first electric car which is now out and about on the road making an impact on Council's environmental footprint.

Council ordered six electric vehicles earlier this year as part of its commitment to renewable energy and lowering emissions.

"Our renewable energy targets can only be achieved by changing the way we use and produce energy," Mayor Dr Christine Curry said.

"Promoting the use of electric vehicles, and encouraging people to walk, cycle or use public transport will also help."

Bayside residents won't miss the council vehicle which has been branded in bright green proudly promoting it is 100 percent electric.

Council is continuing to work closely with developers to help ensure suitable charging stations are included in all new developments.

Early next year Council aims to be part of a trial program that will see 10 street-side electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed in local streets for a 12-month period.

This trial will help assess the demand for commercial EV stations in Bayside as well as the implementation of future EV chargers.
