Council's Gala Dinner dazzles in turning point for City post-pandemic

Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller greeted attendees at Council's 2021 Thank You Gala Dinner

A display of fireworks closed a night of fundraising at Liverpool City Council's Thank You Gala Dinner held on Friday 12 November at Liverpool Catholic Club. The Gala Dinner brought together Liverpool City Councillors, Members of Parliament, Council staff and key representatives across business, sport and education in support of two community organisations in Liverpool – The Salvation Army and CNA Italian Australian Services.

Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller said the event signalled a positive turning point for the City of Liverpool which has faced some of the toughest challenges in its 200-year history.

"As the first major Council event to return in this new post-COVID-19 environment, it was only fitting that the Gala Dinner revolved around the simple concept of saying 'Thank You'," Mayor Waller said.

"We say thank you to our local heroes and amazing community organisations who worked tirelessly through the 18-months marred by fires, floods, and a global pandemic."

International travel came early for attendees this year with the transformation of the Liverpool Catholic Club into a piazza reminiscent of the south of Italy.

On arrival, guests were treated to a cocktail hour Limoncello tasting by award winning liqueur makers Cello Liqueur while listening to the performances of talented musicians Jazz Amore and multi-award-winning accordionist Ross Maio. Entertainer extraordinaire Graham Kelleher created a lively atmosphere as the Master of Ceremonies.

The Italian theme was also brought to life in the various prizes raffled off during the night including the major prize – a luxury escape to Guestlands Italia B&B valued at $2,500.

Mayor Waller praised the attendees on the night who dug deep to raise thousands of dollars for the selected two community organisations.

"No doubt, our wonderful community organisations will play an important part in the post-pandemic recovery of our City and we're delighted to have helped them continue their vital work in our community," Mayor Waller said.

Mayor Waller extended her thanks and gratitude to the event's Diamond Sponsor, Liverpool Catholic Club, and Silver Sponsors, Daikin and the University of Wollongong.

"I invite anyone who hasn't attended our soirees in recent years to consider coming along. They are a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, business partners and your local politicians in support of amazing community causes," Mayor Waller said.
