A new campaign is rolling out across the State encouraging Western Australians to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated against COVID-19, as the State prepares to open up its vaccination eligibility to people aged 50 and over.
The 'Roll up for WA' campaign is aimed at getting as many Western Australians vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
The campaign features real frontline workers who were among the first vaccinated in WA and their personal reasons as to why they chose to 'roll up their sleeve'.
In addition to frontline workers, a number of Western Australians are featured in the campaign including volunteers, a Nyikina person (Kimberley region) and a school teacher who share their commitment to protecting their families, friends and communities.
The wide-reaching campaign, which commences today will feature on digital, radio, television, print, out-of-home and social media advertising channels across the State.
All Western Australians who are receiving their COVID-19 vaccine, or who have received their vaccine, are encouraged to become social media advocates by using the hashtag #Rollup4WA.
Western Australians over the age of 70 are eligible and strongly encouraged to receive their AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination.
From next Monday, May 3, all people 50 years and over will be eligible to book in and receive the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination from State-run community vaccination clinics.
Participating GP clinics will be able to start administering the vaccine for people 50 and over from May 17, 2021 or earlier if they obtain an exemption from the Federal Government.
Recent advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), confirmed AstraZeneca as the preferred COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 50 years and over.
Western Australians can roll up their sleeves at a number of State-run vaccination clinics, with two community clinics now open at the Claremont Showgrounds and near the Perth Airport at 2 George Wiencke Drive.
These community clinics will operate for seven days per week, opening from 8.30am to 3.30pm and people are available to book in via 13 COVID (13 26843).
Two more State-run community clinics, one in Joondalup and one in Kwinana, will be established by the middle of May. Eligible people are also able to access COVID-19 vaccinations through selected General Practices (GPs), GP Respiratory Clinics and Aboriginal Medical Services.
A number of hospital-based clinics have also been established to vaccinate frontline health care, quarantine, and border workers, and those working in high risk and critical areas.

"The COVID vaccine is one of our lines of defence, so it's vital we all get the vaccine when it's our turn.
"The vaccine is here. It's been tested and certified, and is another protection measure we can add to our armour.
"We are seeing across the globe, especially in India, the devastating effects COVID-19 is having.
"I'll be rolling up my sleeve to get the vaccine next week and I strongly encourage everyone to do the same.
"Western Australians, and all Australians, have a responsibility to keep their families, friends and communities safe."

"WA Health will be scaling up its COVID-19 Community Clinics to ensure as many Western Australians aged 50 years and over can receive their COVID-19 vaccination.
"Western Australians aged 70 and over are eligible to get the vaccine and I encourage them to do so as soon as possible.
"We cannot be complacent. COVID-19 can spread quickly and widely. It has resulted in the deaths of more than 3 million people worldwide and more than 900 deaths in Australia.
"Here in WA, we are so lucky to have access to the COVID-19 vaccination before this virus has taken hold with the devastating effects we have seen overseas.
"The more people who are vaccinated, the more we can protect our families, our friends and our whole community."
