Covid Infringements in Darwin and Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have issued two people infringement notices for failing to obey directions set by the Chief Health Officer.

Yesterday, a 58-year-old woman quarantining at the Alice Springs Quarantine Facility, was found to be breaching quarantine requirements and leaving her room. When approached by police, the woman removed her mask and refused to go back to her room. The woman had been previously cautioned earlier in the day and has now been issued an infringement.

Additionally, a 27-year-old man in Darwin has also been found breaching CHO directions, after he failed to present for a COVID-19 test.

The man arrived from Cairns on 4 August 2021, after completing two weeks quarantine in Queensland. Upon entry into the Northern Territory, the man was to isolate and submit a COVID-19 test on day 3 post quarantine. However, the man did not attend his appointment and as a result has been issued with an infringement.

Incident Control Sachin Sharma said, "It's important for people to comply with the direction set in place.

"The CHO's recent Border Direction has prohibited the entry of non-NT residents into the Territory if an individual is arriving from declared hot spot area as an additional layer of protections for all Territorians.

"It's a privilege to be able to come home and enjoy the lifestyle the NT provides at the moment. The directions are in place to keep Territorians safe from COVID-19 virus. The NT Police have escalated its enforcement activities with zero tolerance approach and will take stern action against people who found to be in contravention of the CHO's directions".
