Cr Penny Flynn: well-earned break

Welcome to those visiting our community over the Christmas and New Year period.

There are many experiences to be had like The Maker Exhibition at the Art Gallery, checking out public art highlights such as the HRCC Firebrace Street Christmas Projection (White Hart Hotel), Framing the Wimmera or just enjoying our cafes and restaurants.

We have some great performances scheduled to appear at the Horsham Town Hall in 2022 so be sure to book your tickets so you don't miss out.

Shows from Human Nature, The Rubens, Jon Stevens and Jimoen are just some of the highlights.

Tickets or gift vouchers for Christmas might even be a handy last-minute Christmas gift idea.

This year has been challenging for us all and the uncertainty of the Coronavirus continues. We have all been separated from our friends and family.

Christmas can be an exciting time of the year for many but it can also be lonely and isolating.

For many it is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. For others it is an opportunity to come together or take the time to have a break.

Our support agencies such as the Christian Emergency Food Centre, St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army have worked tirelessly this year within the constraints of COVID restrictions to assist those in our community and beyond to ensure they have the food and support they need.

At Christmas our support services and agencies have continued to care for those who find themselves in need. This year will be the first time some people have had to ask for assistance. Thank you to all those who continue to use their time and talents to care for people.

It has been lovely to see the joy and happiness the Christmas tree and bauble in Roberts Place has brought to many faces.

If you haven't seen the postcards illuminated on the White Hart Hotel in Firebrace Street, please make sure you do. There are many people in our community who have been very creative in their Christmas light displays and it's nice to see so many families out driving after dark to take a look.

Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Stay well and stay safe over the holiday season and I look forward to seeing you in 2022.
