Creativity crowned the winner in tax competition

Animations, comedy skits and a rap music video about superannuation were among the prize winners of the 2018 Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Tax, Super and You competition.

The competition asked students from years 7–12 to pitch creative campaigns encouraging their friends to learn about the importance of paying tax and building superannuation.

Assistant Commissioner Sally Bektas, one of the three judges for the competition, said the judging panel had a tough time selecting the final prize winners.

"The entries we received in the competition this year were incredibly creative, innovative and set a high standard," Ms Bektas said.

"Congratulations to those who won a prize and thank you to all the students who entered the competition and the teachers and schools that supported them.

"It's great to see students really putting thought into our tax and super systems and we look forward to running the competition again next year."

The judging panel also included electronic music producers and hosts of Triple J's Friday Night Shuffle Vance Musgrove and Mikah Freeman from the popular DJ duo The Aston Shuffle, alongside ATO Deputy Commissioner Alison Lendon.

The People's Choice Award was also competitive, with almost 2,500 votes from the public. A single animation entry, titled 'Tax & You', took out first prize and the People's Choice Award in the junior secondary category. The 'Students Guide to Tax' took out the People's Choice Award in the senior secondary category as well as second place.
