Crown St Markets return for Christmas - Wollongong

Good news for Christmas shoppers – the Crown Street Markets are returning to the Wollongong CBD this week!

During the COVID-19 lockdown, our popular Thursday night street food, and Friday growers and makers markets were put on pause to comply with the NSW Health restrictions. Now, we're excited to share the news that markets will be making a return in time for the summer holidays.

Welcoming the Crown Street Markets to the Wollongong CBD is an exciting step for residents and visitors who are returning to work, shop, eat and play in the city.

"We know this announcement will come as good news for those who have missed the markets over the past few months. It's also a positive opportunity for local businesses who have struggled during lockdown," Wollongong City Council Director Community Services Kerry Hunt said.

"During lockdown the set term contract for the previous markets ended and as a result Council completed a competitive tender process to select an operator for the Crown Street Mall markets. Blue Sky Markets was the successful applicant and Council's new Hire Agreement will run until September 2024.

"So as the markets return to Wollongong, we're looking forward to seeing what the new operator, Blue Sky Markets, will deliver.

"Blue Sky Markets will use the next few months as a chance to review how these popular markets operate – with exciting changes planned for next year. However, we know that many of the stalls that people loved previously are returning. Friday day market hours have also been extended which is a win for shoppers."
