Cyclone Fina - Recovery Update

NT Government

On 1 December 2025 the Territory Emergency Management Council (TEMC) agreed to stand down the Territory Emergency Operations Centre and continue to prioritise recovery activities through Northern Territory Government agency arrangements as of 7pm, 1 December 2025.

The Cyclone Fina Recovery Hotline (1800 888 901) will also close at 7pm.

The decision comes in the wake of strong community engagement and provision of support through the hotline and Welfare Recovery Centres at Marrara and greater Darwin region pop-ups.

Northern Territory Recovery Coordinator Luccio Cercarelli said while both the hotline and recovery centres had seen strong contact from community in the week following Cyclone Fina, demand for services has dropped significantly as most Territorians affected are getting back to normal life.

"Territorians in need of assistance can continue to access support by contacting the welfare recovery team at a Welfare Recovery Centre or relevant support service, by contacting Power and Water directly, or via their local council," Mr Cercarelli said.

The Welfare Recovery Centre at Marrara Indoor Stadium and pop-up Welfare Recovery Centres across Greater Darwin will operate as scheduled until Wednesday 3 December, with hours extended at Marrara for Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 December to open from 8:30am to 5pm.

From Thursday 4 December, welfare recovery support can be accessed weekdays between 8:30am and 4pm from the Department of Children and Families offices at CasCom Centre in Casuarina or Palmerston Central in Yarrawonga.

Of the almost 20,000 properties to lost power during Cyclone Fina, about 20 properties in the greater Darwin area remain without power. Power and Water is working to progress these reconnections as soon as possible.

Eligible residents who experienced power outages for more than 72 hours as a result of Cyclone Fina can continue to apply for immediate hardship relief payments until Wednesday 10 December 2025. Applications can be made by visiting a welfare recovery centre or Department of Children and Families office.

"I'd like to thank Territorians for their ongoing understanding and cooperation as we step down our recovery efforts in response to reduced demand. It's a testament to the resilience of our community, and hard work and dedication of our public servants and partner organisations working around the clock to deliver support," Mr Cercarelli said.

"Cyclone Fina brought out the best in Territorians - we were prepared, we followed emergency advice, and we worked together to get Darwin and the Tiwis back up and running as quickly as possible."

"There is still some work to do to finalise the recovery process, and we are all looking forward to getting back to life as usual and enjoying the festive season."
