Willoughby City Council's popular all-abilities dance party, Dance to the Nines, celebrated its 15th anniversary with a jungle-themed event this September.
Launched in 2010 and delivered in partnership with the Rotary Club of Chatswood/Roseville, Dance to the Nines was created as part of Council's commitment to providing safe, inclusive and accessible events where people with disability can socialise, express themselves and actively take part in community life.
Mayor Tanya Taylor said the milestone highlights Council's long-standing commitment to inclusion and connection.
"Dance to the Nines has created a fun space for people of all abilities to come together, make friends and share the joy of music and dance. Reaching 15 years is a significant achievement and a testament to the community spirit that makes Willoughby so unique," she said.
Local band Evergreen Music have performed at every Dance to the Nines party since it began. They started as young musicians and have been part of the event's journey ever since.
Evergreen band member Ben said, "We've loved being part of Dance to the Nines for the past 15 years. The energy, the fun and the sense of community keep us coming back. It's been a privilege to grow with the event and see the joy it brings to so many people."
Evergreen's live performances continue to energise the dance floor and create a welcoming atmosphere, and their ongoing support has been central to the event's success.
Dance to the Nines also plays a vital role in supporting Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), which outlines practical measures to support accessibility and inclusion for people of all abilities.
Council is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive city where everyone feels they belong by providing equitable opportunities for people with disability to participate fully in all aspects of community life, including cultural activities and events.
Dance to the Nines reflects this commitment in practice. This year's celebration is a vibrant reminder of the value of programs that empower people, encourage self-expression and strengthen community ties.
Council thanks community members, staff, volunteers and the Rotary Club of Chatswood/Roseville for making Dance to the Nines an ongoing success.
