Darwin student to learn about tropical cotton through Horizon scholarship

CRDC

Agricultural science student Ayla Christophers of Darwin has today been announced as the cotton industry recipient of the 2022 AgriFutures Australia Horizon Scholarships, with support from CRDC.

Through the Horizon program, CRDC will provide Ayla with a $10,000 bursary, annual professional development workshops, and cotton industry placements where she will learn about tropical cotton production in northern Australia.

"I am passionate about the Australian environment and tropical agricultural systems. After the completion of my degree, I would love to use my knowledge to address issues in Northern Australian such as food security, climate change and increasing the sustainability of agricultural practices. I am an avid believer that science is one of the best ways to help people and the environment," says Ayla.

"Being able to participate in an industry placement with the Cotton Research and Development Corporation is a great opportunity and I am keen to learn more about the development of the cotton industry in the north."
