A pair of alleged burglars who strapped a stolen haul to the roof of their vehicle will now face court.

Police received a report around 5.10pm yesterday that two males were taking furniture from an address on Trafalgar Street, Onehunga.

Inspector Jim Wilson, Auckland City East Area Commander, says the informant watched as the pair removed furniture from the property and tied it to the roof of their vehicle.

"The men then left the scene with their highly identifiable haul prior to Police arrival.

"Officers were dispatched to locate the suspects."

Cameras gained observations on the vehicle as it travelled west through Hillsborough and into Mount Roskill.

A unit signalled for the vehicle to stop on Griffen Park Road, where a search was invoked.

Furniture believed to be stolen from the property was located inside the vehicle and on its roof. The two occupants were arrested.

"An eyewitness's quick actions were crucial in helping us locate these offenders.

"We remind the public to report any suspicious activity to Police so we can stop it as it's happening," Inspector Wilson says.

Two men, aged 52 and 60, were charged with being unlawfully in a building and will appear in Auckland District Court on 4 November.
