Delivering New Stations For West

Vic Department of Transport

The West is set to welcome two new train stations and planning upgrades for a third - improving safety, accessibility and better connecting locals for years to come.

Melbourne's west is growing fast, and we need to keep investing in infrastructure to support the increased population.

That's why Victoria's Big Build is delivering a brand-new station at Tarneit West, an overhaul of the existing Albion station and planning works for Truganina Station as part of a more than $200 million package of works.

At Tarneit West, the new station will include a pedestrian crossing, a four-bay bus interchange and parking for up to 400 commuters. The new Tarneit West station will be located on Davis Road and in conjunction with the planning for a new Truganina station, it will better connect the growing suburbs in the west to the CBD.

Albion station will be rebuilt to become a modern and accessible station – providing an important boost to this growing precinct. The station will be rebuilt as part of the Melbourne Airport Rail project. The new station is part of getting the Sunbury line ready for the extra trains that will run when the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025.

The new stations will build on significant investment in transport upgrades in Melbourne's west and northwest, with more than $27 billion in road and rail infrastructure through the Big Build.

The Metro Tunnel, Suburban Rail Loop, Sunbury Line Upgrade, Melbourne Airport Rail, West Gate Tunnel Project and upgrades to local roads will significantly improve the way locals get around each day by reducing travel times, improving safety and reliability.

To ensure more trains can run more often, we're also removing 17 dangerous and congested level crossings in the west and northwest – with 12 already gone for good.
