Are you concerned about your memory or worried that someone you know may have dementia? Dementia Australia is offering a range of support in Charters Towers and Townsville between 13-17 March 2023.

There are an estimated 80,000 people living with dementia in Queensland. Without a medical breakthrough this number is expected to increase to an estimated 174,000 people living with dementia by 2058.

The Dementia Australia courses are an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family, and friends to attend free education sessions and to discuss the support and services Dementia Australia can provide. Please note, bookings are essential.

Events and education sessions include:

Communication and Dementia

This session provides information on dementia, the way we communicate and how changes in communication can occur as a result of dementia.

  • Monday 13 March 2:00pm-4:30pm in Charters Towers

Grief, Loss and Dementia

This session provides an overview of the grief, loss and emotional impact of the changes caused by dementia.

  • Tuesday 14 March 9:30am-12:00pm in Charters Towers

Introduction to Dementia

This session introduces dementia including an overview of different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning and how to support someone living with dementia.

Carer Gateway – Information Session

This session provides information for families and cares on how to access free dementia specific services including counselling, coaching, connecting with other carers, practical assistance, planned and emergency respite.

Worried About Your Memory?

This session provides information on memory and common changes that may occur with ageing.

EDIE for Family Carers

This session enhances knowledge of dementia through virtual reality technology that allows participants to see the world through the eyes of a person living with dementia.

  • Thursday 16 March 9:30am-12:30pm in Townsville

Carer Wellness Program

This group session is designed to support positive health and wellbeing outcomes for a carer, family or friend of a person living with dementia.

  • Friday 17 March 9:30am-3:00pm in Townsville
