Department Announces Construction Award for U.S. Consulate General in Milan

The Department of State has awarded Caddell Construction Company LCC of Montgomery, Alabama the construction contract, managed by Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO), for the new U.S. Consulate General in Milan, Italy. SHoP Architects of New York is the architect. The approximately 10-acre campus will provide a secure, sustainable, and resilient platform for U.S. diplomacy in Milan and across northern Italy.

In addition to the new Consulate building, the project includes restoration of the historic Liberty Building on the Consulate site. The restored building will allow for expanded Consular services and space for public engagement. The project is registered with LEED® - a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices - and has a goal of Silver certification.

Since the start of the Department's Capital Security Construction Program in 1999, OBO has completed 168 new diplomatic facilities. OBO currently has more than 50 active projects either in design or under construction worldwide.

OBO provides safe, secure, functional, and resilient facilities that represent the U.S. Government to the host nation and that support U.S. diplomats in advancing U.S. foreign policy objectives abroad.
