Disability Action Week will be celebrated from 5 to 11 December this year, to mark one of the most significant weeks of the year for Queenslanders living with disability.
Minister for Disability Services Craig Crawford said Disability Action Week was traditionally held in September each year.
But moving the week to December to align with International Day of People with Disability would give organisations more time to plan COVID-safe events and activities, Mr Crawford said.
"Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Queenslanders celebrated Disability Action Week virtually last year," Mr Crawford said.
"Moving the awareness raising week to December this year will give more Queenslanders, including people with disability, their family members and carers the opportunity to get vaccinated so they can safely participate in Disability Action Week community events.
"This year's Disability Action Week theme is 'Workforce Diversity – open up to opportunity' with a focus on employment opportunities for people with disability in Queensland's post-COVID economic recovery.
"I'm really looking forward to attending bigger and better celebrations right across the state this December and I encourage all Queenslanders to show their support and get involved."
Mr Crawford said creating a more inclusive state for the one in five Queenslanders living with disability was a top priority.
"As a government we are committed to creating thriving communities, where people of all abilities can access and enjoy opportunities to engage in their communities," Mr Crawford said.
Disability Action Week provides the perfect opportunity to promote greater community awareness about people with disability and supports inclusive communities."
