The International Organization for Migration (IOM) today announced the opening of nominations for the inaugural IOM Crossroads Award, a new initiative celebrating individuals, organizations, and initiatives that are transforming the lives of migrants, displaced persons, and the communities that welcome them.
The Award recognizes those whose commitment and measurable impact advance safe, orderly and regular migration while upholding the rights, dignity, well-being and inclusion of people on the move.
"Every day, we see migrants strengthening their communities, and people coming together to help those on the move find safety, rebuild their lives and contribute their skills," said Amy Pope, IOM Director General. "As IOM marks its 75th anniversary, the Crossroads Award celebrates these contributions and the people who make them possible. By sharing their work, we hope to inspire others to turn compassion and good ideas into practical solutions that improve people's lives."
The IOM Crossroads Award honours contributions from across society, including community organizations, civil society organizations, local leaders, volunteers, migrant-led initiatives, private sector partners, academic institutions, faith-based groups and host communities. Their work fosters protection, resilience, social cohesion and shared prosperity, demonstrating how collaboration and innovative solutions can create meaningful change.
Rooted in IOM's seventy-five-year legacy of supporting people on the move, the Award reflects the Organization's enduring commitment to human dignity, solidarity and hope. Since its origins in 1951, when the Organization was established to assist people displaced by conflict in post-war Europe, IOM has evolved into the leading United Nations organization working on migration worldwide. The Award is founded on the belief that many of the most inspiring examples of leadership and impact happen closest to the communities IOM serves. The winner of the inaugural award will be announced at a special event marking IOM's 75th Anniversary on 9 December 2026.
