Community Invited to Weigh In on Local Safety Initiatives

Georges River Council

Georges River Council wants residents to share their thoughts on two proposals. The community is invited to share their thoughts on the proposed Alcohol Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas. They can also provide feedback on the draft Grants and Donations Policy for 2026.

These plans aim to create a safe and connected community. They improve well-being and build local partnerships. They also make public spaces safe and welcoming.

Alcohol Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas are being renewed. This will keep drinking limits in place. The rules apply to some streets, footpaths, public car parks, and open spaces. They will stay for another four years. These measures help keep public spaces safe, welcoming and accessible for everyone.

Council also wants feedback on the updates to the draft Grants and Donations Policy 2026. The proposed changes will simplify the Council's funding programs. They will be clearer and more consistent to meet community needs.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said both proposals aim to help residents and community groups.

"These proposals support councils' commitment to ensuring safety and community is at the forefront of decision making," Mayor Borg said.

"Community feedback is an important part of both processes. It helps us see what matters most locally. This way, Council's choices match the needs of our residents, businesses, and community groups.''
