Leeton Shire Council is inviting community feedback on the Draft Disability Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee Terms of Reference, which have been placed on public exhibition. Feedback is invited until Friday 18 September 2026.
Council endorsed the draft document for exhibition for 28 days at its July Ordinary Meeting. The Terms of Reference outline the Committee's purpose, membership, responsibilities and operating procedures.
The Disability Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee has been established to provide community-informed advice to Council on disability inclusion, accessibility and equity across Leeton Shire.
It will also support the implementation and review of Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030, helping to improve the accessibility of Council services, programs, infrastructure and community spaces.
Portfolio lead for Diversity & Inclusion, Cr Nicholas Wright, said the Committee would give people with lived experience an important voice in Council's decision-making.
"People with a disability, their carers, service providers and other community members hold valuable knowledge about the barriers they and their loved ones face in their everyday lives," Cr Wright said.
"This Committee will provide a direct avenue for those experiences and ideas to inform Council's work and help us make Leeton Shire more accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities.
"We are keen to hear if the Terms of Reference are right and who might be interested to serve on such a committee."
Council also appointed Cr Boston Edwards and Cr Krystal Maytom (Alt Cr Nicholas Wright) as the two Councillor representatives to serve on the Committee.
The draft Terms of Reference can be viewed on Council's 'Have Your Say' online engagement portal during the public exhibition period. Hard copies of the documents can be viewed at the Council Administration Building, Leeton Shire Library, Yanco Shop and Whitton and Murrami Post Offices.
