Disaster Assistance for Central West Storms in Victoria

Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience, Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education

Disaster assistance is now available in communities which have been affected by Victorian floods and storms commencing on 26 January 2022, under the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience, Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie said the support will assist councils with the costs of road and infrastructure repairs and clean-up.

"The extreme weather brought strong winds, heavy rainfall and flash flooding that left extensive debris across roads and properties.

"Support to councils is available for the costs of the restoration of essential public assets, to ensure communities are safe," Minister McKenzie said.

Disaster assistance has been activated in seven Local Government Areas - Indigo Shire, Macedon Shire, Mildura Shire, Mt Alexander Shire, Towong Shire, Wellington Shire and the City of Wodonga.

Minister for Emergency Services, Jaclyn Symes said that the impacts of severe weather have been felt by communities still in recovery from other weather events.

"Communities in regional Victoria have had a challenging time throughout the pandemic, and recent severe storms has undoubtedly added to that strain.

"We will continue to work with the Federal Government to provide the support to communities wherever we can."
