In response to local landowner and community requests to learn more land management techniques, Council presents a Dung Beetle workshop hosted by Dr Russ Barrow of Charles Sturt University Dung Beetle Ecosystem Engineers project (DBEE).
The dung beetle project is expected to provide significant benefits to livestock producers, with aims to:
- improve soil in grazing systems
- reduce the spread of diseases and insect pests, such as bush flies
- increase pasture health
- reduce nutrient run-off into waterways.
"In this workshop local land-owners will learn why dung beetles are important to farm ecosystems, what beetles are in their area, and how to attract, monitor and rear dung beetles," said Angela Hughes, Director Planning and Environment.
"Discover the benefits of Dung Beetles for your agricultural property. This workshop will be of particular interest to small landholders and agribusinesses, as well as environmental and Landcare groups."
