Non‑perishable food donations are now being accepted for the 2026 Hands of Support event, which brings essential services together in one event to support our community's most vulnerable people.

While QShelter is leading the event this year, Rockhampton Regional Council is proud to continue its support by providing the venue, breakfast, toiletries and towels for participants accessing shower facilities.

Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said the event delivered free services for people experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, or facing hardship.

"Council is really proud to lend a helping hand, this event allows vulnerable people to get immediate help rather than just giving them a brochure with information," Cr Wickerson said.

"Since Hands of Support, formerly known as Homeless Connect, started in 2010, it has provided more than 13,000 services to over 2,200 people, which is just incredible.

"Some of the services present on the day include legal and financial advice, housing pathways, and medical check-ups."

QShelter Service Integration Facilitator for Central Queensland, John Clayton, said attendees would be able to access food, clothing and showers at the event.

"This event is vital because it connects vulnerable people who may feel overwhelmed by the sector with multiple agencies in a single visit," Mr Clayton said.

"By bringing all these essential services into one location at the Rockhampton Showgrounds, we remove the barriers that often prevent our most vulnerable residents from getting the help they need."
