Hume City Council has welcomed a major funding commitment from the Albanese Labor Government to deliver upgrades to Donnybrook Road.

The $37.4 million investment along with the Allan Labor Government's commitment of $7.7 is a major boost for infrastructure development in Hume's growing north, improving safety and connectivity for residents.

This latest commitment brings the Federal and State Government's total investment in the Donnybrook Road duplication to more than $170 million, reflecting the scale and importance of upgrading critical infrastructure in Hume's growth areas.

The project will progress Stage 2 upgrades on Donnybrook Road, seeing a second bridge built over the Hume Freeway, and Donnybrook Road duplicated between the Hume Freeway and Dwyer Street. Intersection upgrades will also be carried out at the Hume Freeway outbound off-ramp.

This will help ease congestion, improve travel times and support the rapidly expanding local community by delivering a safer and more efficient transport network.

The funding demonstrates the positive impact of all levels of government working together to deliver essential infrastructure for Hume residents and businesses. We thank both the State and Federal Governments for acknowledging the need for this important work.

Council has consistently advocated for upgrades to Donnybrook Road, highlighting the pressures faced by local road users as population growth continues to accelerate across outer Hume.

This investment marks a significant milestone in ensuring the transport infrastructure keeps pace with demand and supports the long-term needs and wellbeing of residents.

Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Cr Carly Moore:

"This is fantastic news for our community and a major step forward in tackling congestion along this critical corridor. These upgrades will make a real difference in reducing delays and improving daily travel for our growing community."

"I would like to thank both the State and Federal Governments for this important investment, as well as our community who have continued to advocate strongly for these upgrades. This outcome shows what can be achieved when governments and the community work together."
