In the wake of the Newcastle Knights' fairytale finals run, footy can't return soon enough across the Hunter.

Doubly so for Southlakes Roosters Junior Rugby League Football Club, with their Douglass Street Oval home at Dora Creek ready for action after the construction of a new amenities building.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said recent footy fever across the region was a reminder of the importance of supporting the game at a grassroots level.

"Rugby League has long been a cornerstone of our community, and it all starts with kids and families enjoying the game at clubs like Southlakes in Dora Creek," he said.

"As a Council, it's up to us to ensure junior clubs have the sporting facilities they need to accommodate the exponential growth we're seeing in community sport. We are leaning into the increased demand for infrastructure that supports community sport through investments like this one in Dora Creek and right across Lake Macquarie."

The $2.2 million council-funded project replaced the previous amenities block, which was irreparably damaged in a traffic accident last year.

The new structure includes female-friendly changerooms, a canteen, accessible toilets, storage space and a referees' room.

Surrounds were also upgraded, including a new playground area, car park, pathways and landscaping.

Southlakes Roosters Junior Rugby League Football Club President Kellie Masters said the completion of the new amenities building marked an exciting milestone for the club and the wider community.

"The new amenities facility at Douglass Street Oval is a fantastic outcome for our club and everyone who uses the ground," she said.

"With more than 400 players, coaches and volunteers involved in the Southlakes Roosters, these modern facilities provide the space and infrastructure we need to support our expanding membership and deliver a better experience for everyone on and off the field.

"The building provides accessible, inclusive and contemporary amenities that will benefit players of all ages and abilities, including our flourishing female participation programs.

"This investment will help us continue to grow the game locally, strengthen community connections and create a welcoming environment for players, volunteers, families and visitors for many years to come."

Local contractor Mat Brown Building led the construction of the project, which began in March.
