Dr Aleeta explains why it's important for kids to get vaccinated against COVID-19

You may be wondering, do kids need the COVID-19 vaccine or if the vaccines are safe for them and what are the side effects? Dr Aleeta Fejo gives answers to these and other common questions for parents and guardians.

"Catching COVID-19 will give your child some immunity, but we're not sure how much or for how long, so it's important they still get vaccinated after they've recovered. This helps to further protect them for longer," explains Dr Aleeta.

COVID-19 vaccines are very good at keeping children aged 5 years and over from getting very sick from COVID-19. Children aged 5 to 11 years are able to get the Pfizer vaccine and children aged 6 to 11 years are able to get the Moderna vaccine. The dose that children of these age groups receive is smaller than the dose that people aged 12 years and over receive. This decision aid might come handy when deciding about COVID-19 vaccination for your children.
